Monday Motivation :: Your Week on Caffeine

Its Monday, and its another week in home office land. Time to band together to get stuff done!

Last week was both extremely unproductive and yet I moved mountains. I opened up the discussion on rebranding eMoms at Home, and I got an earful. I spent every waking minute on naming, branding and research. Which unfortunately meant that I didn’t do a few things on my list from last Monday. So I picked three random participants from that day, and will the following people please send me a 125×125 ad for your site:

Selene M. Bowlby

Ria Kennedy

Suzie Cheel

This week I’ll have to throw down a little steeper leverage, because my inbox is spiraling out of control and I’m close to a decision on a new name. Which means no. time. for. slacking.

So what is leverage and what is Monday Motivation anyway?

Step 1 - let us know what you are going to get done today (your to-do list, so to speak).

Step 2 - put it in a comment below or a post on your own site.

Step 3 - let us know what will motivate you to get it done - a reward, consequences, or whatever you need to think that will ensure you do what you say you are going to do. I’ve found that the public announcement and accountability is a particularly great motivator, but throw down consequences if you really need a kick in the pants to get stuff done! Unless, of course, you are working towards a new laptop too, in which case I think the reward is particularly motivating.

We don’t care how you get it done, we just want to support you in reaching your goals.

Before I go to sleep today I will:

  • Clean out my inbox of 504 emails (I’m SOooooo bad!!)
  • Do four loads of laundry
  • Spend 30 minutes on author contracts
  • Email Megan
  • Meditate

I’d usually also put up a list for the week, but knowing I have a mountain of work ahead of me, I’m not going to commit to specifics. I’ve found the hard way that jumping into a rebrand is way more unpredictable than I ever could have imagined!

If I don’t have all of this done by the time I go to bed tonight, I will give a Monday Motivation participant $300 cash.

There. That should make sure I don’t get off track. :)

So what are you going to get done today?

    OMG, Wendy! You’re AWESOME! :)

I’ll email you a banner, and will post again in a little bit with my list for this week.

Thanks again - if this didn’t make my Monday, I don’t know what else would.

    Thank you!

I’m having a hard time getting motivated today. I’m mad at my husband and my oldest son so I’m not in a very good mood, which makes it hard to WANT to do anything.

    TO DO:
    Update 2 blogs
    Visit a couple of forums
Finish a header for my new JV blog

    Give 3 haircuts
    2 loads of laundry
    Brush 3 horse tails

    Already Done:

Wow, it sounds like the rebranding is going well - close to a new name already! I can’t wait to learn what it is.

    Here’s my MM:

    1. Put my office key card and ID where I will think to grab it tomorrow morning. (Nothing starts a Monday off on the wrong foot like having to put all your bags through security to get into your office building. I will NOT do it again tomorrow!)

    2. Email Mike.

    3. Write three of my three-year-old’s birthday thank you cards.

    4. Work out on the treadmill.

    5. Finish the brief I’m working on.

If I don’t do these things, I will donate $100 to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

    Morning!

    My Monday motivation includes:

Fleshing out the 2008 April Fools joke I’m planning online

    Writing in my blogs

Did I mention the April Fools joke?

Getting my coffee blog up and running.

And about the April Fools joke (it’s all floating about in my mind and I know I can pull it together…but wow, what a lot of work).

    Time for more coffee,

Every evening I write my punch list for the next day and every morning I review that list before opening up a single email.

I’ve also heard having a solid routine helps (breakfast, email, blog reading and then the ‘work’ day begins), but I haven’t been able to nail down a more complete routine yet.

Wendy, over 500 emails, I might consider running away and not leaving any forwarding address to anyone. How does one read that many emails? I can’t imagine how you ever clear you mind. And yes, one thing you have to do is meditate…so as not to go crazy. As for my week…I just found out a real estate deal I’ve worked 3 years on, and intensely the last year and half…just died….and I’m devastated. So today I just survive…I’ll try to clear my head and relax. Not so easy however, I do know whats more important…my health. So I’ll focus on staying healthy and catch up on the details another week…

So my list for today is

    2. Shamed by Wendy- get my gmail inbox back to zero before I go to bed.
    3. order extra memory for my computer and Des’s so we become more efficient and effective

    Hmmm… love this exercise…

OK. Before 7 AM Tuesday (gives me some wiggle room, LOL) I intend to:

Stumble into at least 5 new writing sites I can add to my feeds

    Do the dishes

Write 3 articles for Big Client #2

Write 4 articles for Helium contest on Card Games

Make a goal list for the rest of the week.

If I don’t meet those goals, I’m going to skip the group outing to Uno’s tomorrow nite to work on them.

Good luck, Wendy, with the re-branding, by the way. I’m looking forward to seeing what eMoms looks like on the other end!

Ok, I’m back with my list for the rest of the day/week.

Unfortunately I didn’t get everything finished from my list last week. Which means I somehow have to make time to clean the fish tank this week too. Ugh!

Is it cheating to reward yourself by reversing a consequence from the previous week, lol?

    Anyway for today…

    Already Accomplished Today
    - follow up with new prospect
    - submit site to search engines
    - submit banner ad for this site (Thanks Wendy!)
    - create new landing page for banner ad (see above - thanks again Wendy, lol)

    Still To Do Today
    - submit site to css gallery

    To Do this week
    - proposals for 2 potential clients
    - design home page for new client
    - mock-up new flash intro for client
    - design 2 email ads for client (waiting for info / confirmation, though….)
    - start thinking about landing page for blog (static pg for ‘new’ visitors

What a week I have ahead of me! I certainly hope I can get it all done, otherwise I will actually be cleaning the fish tank this weekend.

If I get it all done… I buy myself another week from cleaning the tank. Poor fishies, though! :O

hugely distracted today by the lure of spring break and the potential to hang out with my daughter - we mapped out the week so I can know what to expect - her presence is fleeting at best

The classic line we mom’s who work from home find ourselves saying when kids are around and for me I expect this all this week is

    “interruptions are our friend”

I had a minor list today knowing it would just be one of those days yet with all said and done all the irons in the fire got stoked. I accomplished alot

I have one more blog to post for my BNI Share, and a load to fold ( does everyone do laundry on monday?!!)

Well phooey! I didn’t get this post emailed to me until tuesday : ( Now I am a day behind….although I did get the orders done monday that I wanted to. That’s a major plus. I have a bunch of other orders to work on this week. My motivation is a dr’s appt I have thursday morning for a “procedure”. Not sure how I will feel after that, so I need to stay motivated these next couple days. My reward will be the piece of cheescake my hubby brought home for me monday after he took our daughter back to college.

Thank goodness I don’t have 504 emails (that’s what happens when you check email constantly : )….did you manage to get through them all?

I recently found your site and I find it so inspiring! Thank you.

I took yesterday off from work so today I have some catching up to do.

    1. Work on 3 client projects…get them out for approval.

    2. Work on inbox to get it down to a reasonable size. I have +3000 messages in my inbox plus more in subfolders. Granted these go back a few years.

    3. Cook dinner tonight. I’d rather work then cook dinner!

    Thanks for the motivation!
