Well, I’m back home from BlogHer and am fairly recovered (I swear I hardly moved a foot from my couch yesterday). I spent a good amount of time enjoying the company of Plain Jane Mom - who I have totally hoodwinked into thinking that I am “focused like a laserbeam”.
This allows me to laugh hysterically behind my keyboard as I remind her that I have given up coffee for two out of the last four weeks because I didn’t finish my own Monday Motivation to do lists. This was made even more painful at the conference where Yahoo! set up an espresso bar with a friendly barista handing out free drinks that I couldn’t drink. Yeah. That sucked.
So what the heck is Monday Motivation, anyway?
Step 1 - let us know what you are going to get done today (your to-do list, so to speak).
Step 2 - put it in a comment below or a post on your own site.
Step 3 - let us know what will motivate you to get it done - a reward, consequences, or whatever you need to think that will ensure you do what you say you are going to do.
Today before I go to sleep I will:
- Clean out my inbox of a surprisingly light 143 emails
- Send a follow up email to everyone I met at BlogHer - I ran out of business cards in the first hour of the conference!!
And I’m afraid to commit to anything else because I really can’t face another week of no coffee. So afraid, in fact, that I will also change my leverage! If I don’t get this stuff done I will spend 8 hours on yardwork this week. *caffeine-fueled work productivity saved*
So what are you going to do today?!

I am going to begin sending follow up notes to the contacts I made at the Working Mother Multi-cultural women conference last week in NY.
I am going to continue software testing of our new application coming out next week.
I’m going to spend some time with my husband’s family who has been here since July 18 and first said they were leaving on the 27th and now say they are leaving tomorrow on the 31st.
What happens if I don’t do these things? I guess I’ll have to do them tomorrow.
But seriously, I will not eat that chocolate candy bar that I’ve been eyeing that my sister-in-laws kids have in the fridge.
I am going to spent the rest of the afternoon (after my client appointment in a few minutes) working on my book. I for sure will finish the current chapter, and might get into (or finish) the next chapter.
I will NOT spent any time writing blog posts (major book writing procrastination source for me).

Monday is winding down at this point, but I’m happy to say that I have already accomplished the major things on my list.
1. Meet with new business partner
2. Talk to former boss
Good stuff, I tell ya.
Wendy - I can’t help but add to this you are very focused like a laser beam - about 20 of them and it makes a great light show. Please take that in the kindest, most flattering way - you are amazing and very focused on all the tasks you juggle.
Glad you had a great weekend and survived the no-coffee week.
Oh man! Each week, I read this a day or so late, intending to get in on it again! That one time I did do it with you was great! Me and my memory!
You make me laugh, such a humourous post, Monday gone for me here in Australia will catch up next week.
Today I am going to (come heck or high water!): post to both of my blogs, finish that article on the proposed garbage fees for the Advocate, vacuum my living room and stay on my diet!
It was so nice to meet you! I wish we could have connected earlier, maybe next time?
You know you’re lacking focus when the Monday list emerges on Tuesday. Or later.
Today:
Take a nap.
Recruit volunteers for this weekend.
Go to bed at a decent hour.
Rewards:
Sanity. OK, and maybe chocolate.
Well, I missed Monday to do this, so I’ll make it for Wednesday.
Today, I will…
1. Take Alex swimming.
2. Get the mock-up I’ve been avoiding to a client.
Ah, that feels good. I eagerly await this mini-failure!

Im promoting both my blogs by getting involved in commenting on others and also making sure i keep updating them with great content.
Im now 5 days in advance with posts on both so im pretty happy, of course the best thing is that you enjoy doing it!
hi wendy, i was feeling uninspired so i posted my “wednesday motivation” early this morning here’s my list:
-Outline at least three articles for the coming week.
-Get my car washed.
-Renew my business license.
your monday motivation has inspired me and some of my readers to get motivated!! thanks!
I didn’t answer this yesterday, but I did accomplish the two main goals I had for yesterday:
1. Finish filling out my incorporation paperwork.
2. Pick out and register domain name for a new project I am working on.
I couldn’t think of anything to motivate me, other than I really want to finish this project, because I am excited about it’s potential. That’s enough motivation for me right now.
