Monday Motivation :: Back to School Means Back to Business!

Monday MotivationMy friend Char is doing the happy dance today. Not only is today the first day of school, but for the first time ever, ALL of her kids are in school. I’m so jealous. My kids don’t start until Wednesday, and for some stupid reason, the kindergarteners don’t start until Friday (who the #$%& starts school on a Friday?!).

No matter when your kids start classes, back to school means back to business. We work at home to enjoy some extra time with our kids, but when they hit the books, it’s time for us to put the nose to the grindstone and make some serious cash between now and the holidays.

I’m here with a little Monday Motivation to help kick off your busy season. I’ll even lead the way with a hefty to-do list to be sure my butt gets into gear and stays in gear!

So what the heck is Monday Motivation, anyway?

Step 1 - let us know what you are going to get done today (your to-do list, so to speak).

Step 2 - put it in a comment below or a post on your own site.

Step 3 - let us know what will motivate you to get it done - a reward, consequences, or whatever you need to think that will ensure you do what you say you are going to do. I’ve found that the public announcement and accountability is a particularly great motivator, but throw down consequences if you really need a kick in the pants to get stuff done!

Today before I go to sleep I will:

  • Clean out my inbox of 160 emails (it’s a light week!)
  • Add one Google AdWords campaign
  • Find Illinois tax forms (hopefully they aren’t in my wet basement!)
  • Hound kids to clean up the front room
  • Meditate

And by the end of the week I will:

  • Add another Google AdWords campaign
  • Have 7 new WordPress templates customized for a new project
  • Walk with my kids to school two times (weather permitting!)
  • Send out some legal forms

If I don’t have all of this done by the time I go to bed on Saturday night, I will go without coffee for a week AND send $150 to Kiva.

So what are you going to get done today? :D

Thanks for the mention Wendy! I have been incredibly productive this morning and just got back from a 1 hour fitness walk with a good friend.

Even though I made a dent in things this morning, my to-do list is rather large still. I still need to empty my inbox, finish updating a client site, respond to an interview request, and do some writing. If I don’t get it done by Wednesday I’ll have to give up coffee, too. Yikes.

I sate down last night and created daily schedules for the entire week. I’m currently only five minutes behind schedule. Woo, hoo!

By the time I go to bed tonight, I will:

    - finish blurbs for writing gig
    - compose first entry for new project
    - read for 3 1/2 hours in book that’s almost due to be returned

Yeah, my schedule lasts until pretty late this evening!
