It’s easy to create a to do list - figure out what needs to get done and put it on your list. And it’s really, really easy to get bogged down in the details of doing, too.
Today, I’m feeling quite bogged down by the “doing”. Answer emails. Grab conference calls. Build media kit. Blah. Blah. Blah. I feel like I’m getting too wrapped up in the day to day grind, and not taking a step back and looking at the big picture - I want to focus more on my outcome!
So what is my outcome?
I want every person on this planet who wants to start a business, grow their business, or create a better balanced business to know about eMoms at Home. Yep. I don’t think small.
But I’m faced with 407 emails (and I semi-cleaned out my flipping inbox on Friday!!), and I know that’s going to take me most of the day to get through. So how do I work on the big picture without neglecting the day to day details that must be attended to?!
*2 hour pause while I tackle this issue before I hit publish*
Heh. I took steps to solve my own problem before I even finished this post. I just talked to a new Virtual Assistant and we’re going to explore working together. She also does web PR and is even open to both payment and barter arrangements.
In the meantime, my inbox has jumped to 416 emails. I had better finish this post!
So, back to our Monday Motivation :: what is it, anyway?
Step 1 - let us know what you are going to get done today (your to-do list, so to speak).
Step 2 - put it in a comment below or a post on your own site.
Step 3 - let us know what will motivate you to get it done - a reward, consequences, or whatever you need to think that will ensure you do what you say you are going to do. I’ve found that the public announcement and accountability is a particularly great motivator, but throw down consequences if you really need a kick in the pants to get stuff done!
Step 4 - Be sure to think about this long-term as well as what you’re going to accomplish today. How will what you do today help you get to where you want to go?
Today before I go to sleep, I will
- Clean out my inbox of 417 emails (it just keeps getting worse!)
- Follow up with my potential VA if she sends me the email I requested today
- Organize my to-do list for the week
- Put together a plan in which I can get 8 hours of uninterrupted planning time to work out a proposal I need to put together
- Take a shower!!!
If I don’t get all of this done by the time I go to bed tonight, I will wash and clean out my husband’s car before next Monday. (Eek!)
So who are you going to BE today and what are you going to accomplish to support yourself in your long-term goals?

Nice post Wendy, Getting motivated in the beginning of the week is always a hassle.
Great post Wendy,
One of my favorite quotes is “The way you do one thing, is the way you do everything”. This is all about who you are being, are you being the person who get’s things done? A great way to start the week out is being the person who accomplishes their to do list.
Wendy -
Have you thought about having a VA who reads your email?
You could have a bunch of “canned” answers (made up from your past emails), and you just answer the emails that are really important/different.
I have my emails set up so clients send me emails directly, but emails though the website go to my VA first. If she does not know what to do, she forwards them to me for direction, or for me to answer.
Took a bit to get set up, but now it’s wonderful! I still get a ton of emails, but a bigger ton go to her.
Elizabeth
Elizabeth - I was just talking about this with my potential VA today. I don’t think I’m quite to the point of having someone else be the front line on my emails - but we did talk about me sending her a bunch of emails to take care of on a regular basis.
I spend half my week responding to emails. I can’t imagine what else I could accomplish without this task on my plate every week!
Getting bogged down, I relate to-and how I felt yesterday, so much to do and a sick blog. Today I feel great. I am BEING positive, excited about where I am heading, the Million Dollar Business.
Fill in on last week-Kiva got $ 25:(
Today I will
1 Write my Motivational Saying post
2 Compile and post the Abundance Highway Carnival
3.Make the TO DO and Packing lists for out China Trip next week.
4. Buy some walking shoes
If I don’t get to No 4 by 5.30pm, I will miss my DruYoga class tonight.
see i tend to get to this sharing at the end of my monday — my to do list was more as you said in the to “be” realm - I love that expression wendy - i really wanted today to be a day off - and actually planned it that way -
what i needed most was space to do as I please rather than any pressure to working the ho - hum list
needless to say I got to everything in the things I wanted to do including some read a novel time - I did not get to the office heap of papers - so next space of time that’s #1 - I promise!!
Back to work tomorrow !!

It’s Tuesday, yesterday got away from me — seriously.
But to make up for that, Tuesday is a TO DON’T day.
Why? Because I need time to stop and reflect on things that have been happening lately and see where I might go from here, or even just to catch my breath.
This is rare for me, I usually use Monday Motivation to get me all geared up for a busy week, but this time I have to step aside out of the task list and get my mind around a few things, lest I move toward error.
So this day (maybe even week) I’m going to take my foot of the gas pedal and make sure my head is in the right place.
This is great Wendy… I just did a post on having a things to do list and i have to say… I don’t have 400+ emails in my inbox…but maybe someday.
This is great and BTW… virtual is the way to go!
