Monday Motivation :: Better Than Speed!

Monday MotivationSummer’s almost wrapped up… I’ve already dropped about $450 on school supplies & clothes (and I’m not done yet), and the anticipation is building… I’m about to have all three kids in school for the first time e.v.e.r. and did I mention the fact that I’m a little excited about that?!?!

Anyway, the excitement of my upcoming freedom is really fueling my motivational level these days - which includes biting off more than I can chew. Hmmm… perhaps I should start “Totally Over-committed Tuesday” as well?!

So what the heck is Monday Motivation, anyway?

Step 1 - let us know what you are going to get done today (your to-do list, so to speak).

Step 2 - put it in a comment below or a post on your own site.

Step 3 - let us know what will motivate you to get it done - a reward, consequences, or whatever you need to think that will ensure you do what you say you are going to do. I’ve found that the public announcement and accountability is a particularly great motivator, but throw down consequences if you really need a kick in the pants to get stuff done (that’s the ‘better than speed’ part)!

Today before I go to sleep I will:

  1. Clean out my inbox of 228 emails
  2. Write a post for Inspired Business Growth
  3. Wrap up my new template tweaks that Randa Clay and I are working on

If I don’t get all of this done before I go to bed tonight, I will go without coffee for a week (this is one I have had to do before, and I find it to be particularly terrifying.)

So what are you going to get done today?

I’m trying to streamline my to-do lists (uh-oh, is that a to-do in itself?) now that I have a little peanut around needing attention. So these are my MAIN to-do’s this week:

    * Cull through the blogs and forums I’ve been researching (thanks to your e-course!) to create a master lists of ones I’d like to really dig into and join the community for the long haul (yes, this is one :-)).

    * Find someone I can hire on an hourly, on-call basis to help me with the ‘techy’ side of my blog . . . specifically SEO, social bookmarking and newsfeeds — along with a bit of design as needed. Any suggestions?

If I don’t succeed by the end of the week I won’t touch the chocolate bar on the counter.

    Cheers,
    Lia

To swirlingnotions: I often put “make a to-do list” as the first item on my to-do list. Then I get to cross it off right away!

As for me, I have a couple of things I need to get done:

    1. Write letter to self for blog post
    2. Bid on jobs

This doesn’t seem like much, but they’re both things that are going to take quite a bit of time.

I never made my official list for today but I was able to accomplish the things I had set out to do today:

    1. Two new posts for blogs.
    2. Outline notes for post tomorrow.
    3. Clean out email Inbox.
    4. Home in time for dinner with family.
    5. Play time with the kids.

I like Lorna’s suggestion of adding the creation of the to-do list to the list, as I have a tendency to keep the list in my head and that makes it too easy to ignore certain tasks.

    Hey Wendy,
as your monday motivation often ends up with a donation to Kiva I thought that this may be of interest to you.
