What is a BlogJolt?

We are a group of women bloggers who have developed a forum to discuss blogging, share tips and successes, and to work together to help each other build traffic and visibility in the blogging community.

The eMoms Blog Jolt Yahoo! Group hosts weekly “Jolts” in which the group members feature a chosen member blog to flood with traffic and inbound links.

You must own a blog, or be interested in starting a blog to join the group. In order to maximize the SEO impact of this BlogJolt Group, members must either be a mom, or have a blog that would generally be of interest to moms. Membership is open and automatic, but new member posts are moderated.

We also offer weekly discussion topics to help members get as much value out of participation as possible. Topics include blogging for money, tech tips, business ideas, online marketing, and work life balance.

Our weekly BlogJolts occur every Thursday.

What do I have to do to join?

We communicate with each other and coordinate our efforts via Yahoo! Groups. You can easily join by going to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/blogjolt/.

How does a BlogJolt work?

1. The Target Blog is selected 3-4 days prior to the BlogJolt day. The blog owner must be ready to take on the BlogJolt for the week – or can also request to participate at a later date.
2. An announcement is made via email and on the BlogJolt Blog.
3. On the day of the BlogJolt, our members find a post on the Target Blog that is of interest and relevant to the readers of their own blog. They write a blog post both referencing and linking to the Target Blog. (You must not use the “nofollow” tag in your links).
4. If possible, please also add a comment to the Target Blog on an entry of your choice.
5. When your post is published, come to www.emomsathome.com/blogjolt/. Enter the following details into a comment on the BlogJolt Target Blog of the Week:

a. Your name
b. Your Blog URL
c. The PermaLink to your post

6. That’s it!

What are the criteria for selecting the Target Blog for the week?

The Target Blog is selected by both specified criteria and random factors:

1. You have to have participated in at least one of the last 3 BlogJolts
2. You have to be available on the BlogJolt day and Friday to interact with the rest of the members who are working on your behalf, moderate comments, and post a roundup of results to the group.
3. You have to have at least 15 posts on your blog, and the posts need to be dated within the last 2 – 3 months, with the most recent in the last 2 weeks
4. Once these criteria are met, the BlogJolt recipient is selected on a random basis, although if the person selected has a blog that is very similar in content to a recent BlogJolt, that person will be put back into the rotation.

How much time would I have to commit to participate in this group?

Your level of participation is up to you. The time it takes you to research and create a post on your blog is the time you would need to contribute on any given week. If your blog is selected for a BlogJolt, then more time is required just for the days of the BlogJolt and the wrap up.

What are the benefits of joining?

1. You can get a major boost out of a BlogJolt! Benefits include an increased Technorati Rank, SEO benefits, Google PageRank increase, and an increase in traffic and subscribers to your blog.
2. You get to know other bloggers in our community, and always have a great excuse to come up with an interesting new resource for your own blog readers
3. You increase your own visibility in the blogging community by becoming a resource to each other, and by further positioning yourself as an expert on your blog topic.
4. You are blogging for a cause! By contributing to the blogging community as a whole, you can rest easy knowing you have made a difference in someone else’s life.
5. Remember the thrill of your first inbound link? Pay it forward!

What if the Target Blog topic is completely irrelevant to the content of my blog?

Some suggestions:

• You can very likely find a post that is relevant to your blog – do a search into the Target Blog archives based on keywords relevant to the content you write about.

• If you have several blogs, it doesn’t matter which one you link with.

• You can also be creative in how you reference a blog entry – tell your readers that this blog, though off topic, inspired a new idea. Tell them one of your guilty pleasures is to read this blog.

• Ask yourself, “If my readers were to find any value in this Target Blog, what would it be??”

• If you still can’t come up with something relevant, it really is OK to skip a week. Honest. We won’t hold it against you. Just please participate next time!

How much does it cost?

Nothing. Nada. This is free. No cost.

Well, you do have to give time… but you get good Karma back. Plus it’s darn fun!
