It’s Monday, and I’m PROUD to say that after writing about my lack of work life balance lately, I took almost the whole weekend off! But that means today we must ‘git down to bizness’, and Get Things Done.
The rules are simple - let us know what you will get done by the end of the day today, and then let us know what you will have to do if you don’t keep your word!
For example, here is my To Do List for the day today:
- Clean out my inbox (it never FLIPPING ends!!!)
- Send emails to two interviewees
- Write my final guest post at Evan Carmichael’s Mastermind Group Blog
- 3 loads of laundry (ah, yes, the sexy life I lead!!)
- Call Gayla
- Call Lisa
- Backup my blog database
If I don’t get all of this done by the time I go to bed tonight, I will wash and detail my husband’s car this weekend, including shampooing the carpet ( ).
Char is already getting stuff done - you can play along by throwing up your own blog post, or by simply leaving a comment.
Then go get busy!
My todo list.
1. update theblogworld
2. find new resources
3. research layouts for my client
4. set up my webhosting company
5. set up my fiance’s skateboard magazine/community
6. install hacks into my media sites MB
7. watch tv.
OK, here’s my list:
1. Start developing a new web application for my company. I’ll code the login module (today I’ll complete the interface for the first screen)
2. Write a post for my blog
3. Start writing a guest post I’ll publish on some well-know blog (they are 5 point, I want to write at least 2 points today)
4. Send two emails: One to a previous client asking for payment, and one to a new client telling how much he will have to pay me
5. Clean my cat’s sandbox
I prefer positive motivation rather than motivation based on a punishment, so if I complete this list I’ll allow me to stop working at 8pm today and tomorrow, and then just have family life
You never cease to amaze me, Wendy!
If I can accomplish Just Five Things each day, above & beyond the daily family management (getting kids to & from school, homework, meals, etc.), it’s a Good Day, so here’s Monday:
1. Blog(2): a Wendy blog & the blog I’ve been working on all morning.
2. Back up website & prep move to new host!
3. Make the bed & finish the laundry (same sexy life, Wendy!).
4. Make a dental appt (this is Huge, and is the result of #1, Part 2).
5. (This will be the reward, too, as I totally agree with Roberto on positive motivation and I am not touching the car in any way, except to gas up or drive it into the line at Cactus Car Wash!)
Read THE TENDER BAR for Weds night Book Group, which I also need to prep for, since I’m the new coordinator for the Midtown (Atlanta) Book Group — yay!
OMG, it’s already 11:22!
Have a great day,
Sherri
Shh I’m quietly playing along, but I’m too much of a weenie to post my to do list with a consequence. This is unchartered waters here so I had to see if I would sink or float right out of the gate.
Maybe I’ll get brave enough to wager on my list next week.
So far, I’m half way through my list though
I also have problems with spam and lots of it. Started using Mozilla’s Thunderbird today I had over 100 spams (from only 18 hours) but only 2 ended up in my inbox.
Spam is part of our online life but it does not have to eat up out time.
I’m on your list! [waves]
I just finished another thing on my list: I blogged today, but I’m not ready to post my whole list - so that will have to do…
I couldn’t accomplish my whole list yesterday because of an unexpected issue. I failed on write 2 point for my guest post and clean the cat’s sandbox so I’ll do it today and reward me anyway at the end of the day
Roberto, I have a secret! For the first time since I started Monday Motivation, I also didn’t get all of my stuff done! But it was kind of on purpose, because I realized I didn’t really mind the fact that I will now be doing my hubby a nice favor. I’ll post a picture of myself next Monday shampooing his car carpet!
This is why I put the painful leverage in place instead of the reward. When I REALLY need to get stuff done, I know that a reward won’t push me to do the things I *really don’t want to do*. Only my fear of avoiding the crappy stuff works!
hehehehe, your husband is very lucky With me we are two of them
I used to use your technique based on kicking me when not accomplishing my tasks, but then I read some blogs and self-help books and I was transformed into a very positive guy (positive exhortation, you know)
My unexpected issue was a client that doesn’t want to pay me do you have any secret to solve those kind of issues? Until this time I have never had this problem, but now I have
mine albeit late…
1. develop breakfast menus for the week’s guests.
2. process the online reservations
3. make sure i ride Picken (my thoroughbred mare) a minimum of 5 miles since we’re entering our first endurance ride.
4. Visit the “usual” blog suspects and post as appropriate.
5. Finish cleaning the inn for arriving guests.
git ‘r done and I get to ride the range.
Happy trails all
