Five years ago, I discovered a fun Thanksgiving activity to do with my kids. It was a storytime activity at our local painted pottery place. After the kids listened to the book I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie, they each got to make their own turkey plate. Little did I know then, that this Thanksgiving activity would become an annual tradition!
I love having my kids make these turkey plates because the turkey is made from their handprint, and as I already mentioned, I love anything with my kids’ handprint on it! My girls love making the turkey plates because they can paint them anyway they like. So each year, I not only get to preserve their handprint with a wonderful keepsake, I get a unique work of art!
Since I’ve been having my kids make these turkey plates for years, I actually have a nice set of dessert plates! This year though my two older girls moved onto dinner plates. With three children making these turkey plates every year, I’ll have a complete set of Thanksgiving dishes in no time!
So I encourage you to have your kids make turkey plates for your Thanksgiving dinner because they’re festive, handmade (no pun intended!) and go beautifully with these and these!
