My hubby and I were out to dinner the other night and we couldn’t help but comment on the atmosphere of the restaurant. It was so festive and lively! We both agreed that the meal was enhanced by our surroundings.

I think the same holds true for a meal at home. And since Thanksgiving dinner is the meal of all meals, I want to make sure our home has a warm and festive atmosphere for our family and friends. So in addition to displaying this, I had my girls make things to adorn each place setting at our Thanksgiving table. We started by making woven placemats.

All you need to make woven placemats are:

• Fall Colors Weaving Placemat Craft Kit from the Oriental Trading Company

To make the woven placemats, have your kids:

1. Decide how they want the colored strips to be arranged in their placemat. The kit comes with orange, green, red and yellow foam strips.

2. Weave one colored strip at a time, over and under the brown slits in the placemat.

3. Alternate starting the strip under the edge of the placemat and over the edge of the placemat.

4. Glue the ends of the colored strips to both edges of the placemat.

5. Glue on the leaves and acorns at one or more of the corners of the placemat.

These handmade colorful placemats will let your family and friends know they are honored guests at your Thanksgiving table, especially when you use these place cards and put a handprint turkey plate on them!
