Earlier this week I threw out a productivity call - and I’m trudging through my week doing a bunch of stuff I’ve been putting off for a very long time.
But it’s frustratingly never-ending - and I’m sure a lot of you feel the same way! There’s always more getting added to the list, more that I want to do, learn about, and get accomplished.
The things that are the most maddening are the things that seem like a lot of fun to do, but I just don’t have the time to take when I weigh the potential rewards. Sometimes it’s a good call and the things eventually fall off of my to do list without ever getting done, because they would have been a waste of time.
But sometimes the things just linger there on my To Do Wish List - and haunt me with their potential…
Things like:
- Putting together a Squidoo Lens
- Learning how to get somewhere on Reddit, Furl, BumpZee or Newsvine
- Building out a strong profile and socializing on MySpace and CafeMom
- Creating a Google Toolbar icon to get gazillions of subscribers
- Taking the time to submit my best articles to the article submission sites
Do any of you also have a To Do Wish List?
Why don’t we pool our resources?
- We put together a list of things we all wanted to learn more about - but just didn’t have the time.
- We assign one Wish per person
- Each person takes a couple of hours to learn the ropes and writes up a post with the best tips
- We have a big link love and learning fest in the process!

Wow! I can say that I’m interested in all of those topics on your to do list. I’m not sure that I can play (due to time constraints this week), but I’ll certainly be following the posts that come out of this project.
I have tried a dozen times to figure out Squidoo.
I am in. I have a to-do list around here somewhere…
Hm, always on my to do list:
1. Determine whether ads & affiliate marketing might reduce the value of my blog to my readers.
2. Find a good way to find & offer to be a guest blogger.
3. Compare phpBB2 and SMF to determine which would make a better forum.
I’m all for it. Here’s my to do list:

Wendy - my wish list will seem like itty bitty baby stuff compared to the seasoned veterans lists - if you see a need for a newbie section to the wish list I’m willing to jump in and help.
I’m all for a newbie section, since I’ll probably be using it too.
I know a thing or two about article submission sites, so I could help out there.
I’d like to know more about how to take advantage of sites like StumbleUpon, Netscape, Furl, etc. All those cool social bookmarking tag thingys you’ve got there (and how do you get those, anyhow?)
Great idea Wendy and I would be interested in helping out with the research/posts.
Something on my wish list right now is to learn how to pack (I always tend to overpack and everything is a wrinkled mess anyways) as I am leaving for Orlando soon but more blogging related things:
~ streamline the theme switching process in WordPress
~ learn how to really use StumbleUpon
~ introduce myself to del.icio.us
~ learn how to find/solicit guest bloggers (see Orlando above)
Now that is masterminding in action!

I’m SO in. My wish:
- Figure out how to do a really awesome, really effective weekly training conference call and record it for future reference. So anyone that could help me study how to make that as interesting and useful as possible would be greatly appreciated.

The custom Google Toolbar icon sounds really cool. I will help you guys (and myself) make one. Be advise though…that means I’ll do something tomorrow (Saturday) that might risk putting the Bollinger back in the wine cellar =P
Would it be an idea to host an online meeting through a program like Citrix GoToMeeting? That way we can all create our own toolbar icon together? I can share my screen with those participating in the meeting.

Easton, we should talk. I’d be happy to share on that one; I’ve been doing teleclasses for a while now.
Heck, we could make it a teleclass (if Wendy likes the idea), and get together on a conference line and chat! I bet quite a few people would have good experience and ideas.

I am interested in the very cool, 3D RSS button - I see it here on your site also. I have searched and searched to no avail. You can count me in, but I am also a newbie and am a bit overwhelmed by all the social networking/bookmarking sites.

NEWBIE LIST
I need to figure out how to fix my blogroll, how to add my archive posts to the end of my new one in the “you might also like:” area, I’d like to know how to do a favicon and if it should be a priority, how do I read my stats and which stats are the most reliable?, hmmmmm…I may add more later…
get the google webmaster tools stuff all set up for my domain.
I just set up a MySpace page for my new Classic Movies blog - so I’d be happy to write up a post about it - at the very least, you can get a free link out of it, people!
Same with squidoo - i’ve created a couple of lenses - it’s not terribly exciting - but again - a free link.
and if anyone wants to know about 301 redirects and must-have wordpress plugins, i can write about that too.
WOW - this is gonna be my playground for a few weeks - I am soo newbie at all of this - got to go check out what the heck is squidoo..haha and i do wanna learn to make that favicon, google toolbar icon and that cool RSS buttons - graphics and all.. gosh I am so excited =)

I’m going to make a Google toolbar button. It’s the first time I heard that’s possible, and I find it an excellent idea.
Simonne - did you read the FreshBlogger post about it? He jumped from 150 RSS subscribers to over 800 because he did this.
I know I’m supposed to be inspirational and all, but I found some hefty inspiration in THOSE numbers!
@derek, I am currently working on a WordPress plug-in that may help “streamline the theme switching process in WordPress”.
I have been struggling with having to transfer all of my custom template tweaks (tracking code, MyBlogLog, etc.) every time I switch templates…so I have been exploring automating part of the process. Let me know if I could help out with your “Wishâ€.

If you have a project that I think I can tackle I will be honest with you and tell you. If I can’t I will also be honest with you and tell you.
SO pretty much this is a win win situation. You help me by me helping you.
@Chris - That is exactly the type of thing that I am looking for as there are so many little tweaks that you make to the theme files for certain trackers and/or plugins that it would be very convenient.
I’m going to be at a conference for a few days but will certainly look to touch base with you when I get back.

for right now i had tons of people buying reviews and selling some ads on my site. so its been doing good. i have to say i finally sat down re-read all my articles and put forth what i teach and let me tell you.. i’m a good teacher i made a lot of money actually doing what i teach.. i was so excited that i wasn’t just full of crap hahahaha

I’m a bit late to the party as I’ve come over to Northern Ireland to visit family (and spend a little time in Dublin for a Dave Matthews Band gig).
One thing I’m wanting to learn more about it SEO for specific keywords.
As an example, I wrote a post recently about ranking for ‘graphic design edinburgh’ and already I’m at the top of the second page on Google. I was surprised!
I want to learn more about this so I can really put a stamp on local web and graphic design searches.
Okay, so instead of an essay I’ll summarise:
- keyword ranking
- amazon affiliation on WordPress
- customising WordPress themes for usability
OK, after looking over my to-do list, the biggest thing I have NO CLUE about that I want to do is podcasting.
I just do not have the time to research it all. Anybody out there with any experience in this area?
I’m happy to be assigned a research task, and I’m sure I’ll learn a lot from everyone else’s summaries. I’d be interested in podcasting in particular,and in learning how to get the best out of Stumbleupon, and …

Count me in! I’ve been so busy, haha, writing posts this weekend, such as 2 for StumbleUpon, and 1 WP Plugins, (well amongst much more)…that I definitely don’t want to miss out here!
I can also share my obvious love for the best places for articles submission.
Definitely want to learn more about your other topics, but it looks most are covered. I’m willing to take on any project not yet taken, such as MySpace, Squidoo, what about LinkedIn? I’m just starting out on all those social networking sites, but have no clue.
Audio–now that’s what I’m looking into a lot lately (actually to outsource) so I’m probably not good for this assignment.

Re - stumble upon; once you go to the site and install it, look to get involved in stumble exchanges. It increases the rotation of your site/blog so more people see it.
