Elite Retreat Roundup

Small Business Ideas Forum

A friendly place to find help & encourage one another

Although I’m still burrowing through emails and trying to get caught up from my travels this week, I wanted to get all the Elite Retreat info into one place (for your reading convenience as well as my linking convenience!!).

I have to say that I’m already seeing results from the experience - less than 36 hours after getting home, I took Neil Patel’s tips on writing to get to the front page of Digg last night! It was quite a ride, with the inevitable server crash as well (thank God Blue Host got me up and running in less than a few minutes! They ROCK!).

So here’s a recap of each Elite Retreat presentation as well as all relevant links:

Woot! Photos of the event can be found at PepperJam and ShoeMoney

Guy Kawasaki and eMom Guy’s Kawasaki’s Keynote was both inspiring and fun. We got to ask questions, chat with him, and best of all, he even remembered my comic blog post in his honor (”You wrote that?!”). Talk about an ego boost! :) My roundup on Guy’s presentation included his secrets for getting VC attention from Garage Technology. This post also did quite well on Digg. ;)

Shoemoney and eMom! Jeremy “ShoeMoney” Shoemaker’s presentation was eye opening as he discussed the subtle nuances between different types of traffic, and when you want to keep people around your site vs. sending them away for a profit. He also discussed search arbitrage and his pretty amazing success with marketing ringtones.

Lee Dodd and eMom! Lee Dodd’s presentation was one of the talks I was most looking forward to. Lee runs some really impressive forums including the well-known Earner’s Forum. I took frantic notes on everything he said in regards to setting up communities and how to make money off of them - without spending too much time on them! It’s also key to set them up so that they are a marketable business to sell down the road - my roundup includes links to some of his strategies to do just that.

ProBlogger and eMom! Meeting Darren Rowse was incredibly cool - I’ve learned SO much from him!! Darren’s presentation was actually chock full of good tips that I haven’t yet implemented. Now I’m scrambling to find the time to get them all done on this site! I wrote about some specific ideas he shared on driving traffic to profitable blog posts that I’m going to make a top priority.

PepperJam and eMom! Kris Jones from PepperJam and I totally hit it off - we’re both fans of Tony Robbins, and we had all sorts of fun swapping stories. Kris’ expertise is in both affiliate marketing and SEM/PPC (Search Engine Marketing/Pay Per Click). I was both inspired and encouraged by Kris’ previous success in this area - and I wrote about his inside tips that went beyond what I knew about the industry.

SEOBook and eMom! Aaron Wall of SEOBook gave a great presentation - I actually learned that I knew more about SEO than I thought! Aaron is really down to earth, and his girlfriend and I had fun being the only chicks in the room. :) He shared some of his best tips and tools, and I have the whole list of links in my roundup post.

Neil and eMom! Neil was so laid back and his presentation was so insightful. Key to getting somewhere on the social media sites is to know the audience, promote your work strategically, and optimize your content once it hits the big time for best results. I took his tips to heart and found it worked wonders on my results - he really knows his stuff!!

Lastly, this was really the experience of a lifetime. If I had paid for it I would have gotten my money’s worth - but winning a ticket was truly a blessing, and I can’t thank these guys enough. They have more dates to come this year - and I’m considering paying to go again it was that great of an experience!

Stay tuned for more tidbits along the way!

    Wendy,

Thanks again for all your ER posts. It was very generous of you to share this info with us and not keep it all to yourself :) It will be very interesting to see how you start implementing all of the tips and tricks you learned over the next few months.

It sounds like a truly inspiring two-days. It’s almost hard to believe that you were able to absorb as much as you did in that time. I wonder if blogging it helped you absorb and retain more than you would have otherwise.

Wendy ~ I’ve been so preoccupied with thoughts and ideas bouncing around inside my head from your posts last week, I had to make a solid conscious decision to NOT come to your blog until I had everything else done today.

You’re intros to the various speakers have become such a nice distraction lately. Feel free to pace yourself on sharing — because I really do value my sleep and the more you post, the more ideas I get and well, thus begins the vicious cycle. :)

    Gayla, you are hysterical!! :D

You’re safe for a while now, at least. I need to stop blogging the widsom and spend my time putting it into action right now, anyway!

And thanks to all of the rest of you for your great comments. I haven’t been able to be as active in the conversation here as I normally am, so I’m looking forward to chatting with all of you, as well as getting to know all of the new faces around here!
