I am a new raving fan of Aaron Wall. Holy cow was his presentation fantastic!
Interestingly, and I guess not surprisingly, a lot of what Aaron talked about was also some of what Neil talked about - headlines, subheads and descriptions are the most critical component to getting good search engine rankings. I had thought that the whole page of content was key - but I guess Google kind of skims the words the way our ADD readers do.
Some of the most kick-butt tools he showed us today you might already know about. But if you don’t, you should, and you should go look at them right now:
The SEO Book Keyword Suggestion Tool
The SEO Book Firefox Extension (WOW!!)
Aaron’s self-published (and super-highly recommended) SEO Book
You know what was the most refreshing idea he shared? That great SEO (Search Engine Optimization) really takes great people skills. Write for the readers, not for the search engines. Use natural language as you write with good keywords, and you’ll do far better than if you cram keywords everywhere (and especially bad if you repeat keyword phrases over and over again!).
And the most $$ valuable idea he shared? Once you have a page that has consistent SEO traffic and inbound links, you can go back and re-work the content to remonetize it better. Now, this can be totally abused by spammers, but as a blogger, refreshing old content with updates and some more advertisements can be a GREAT monetization strategy that targets pure SEO traffic (and doesn’t really impact regular readers as much).
Now I’m off! I’m sitting here in an empty room with Alden DoRosario, one of the founders of Chitika, and we’re getting caught up on email, blogging and chatting with each other about business and kids. But dinner is around the corner, so I’m signing off for the night.
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s Elite Retreat episodes! Darren Rowse, Lee Dodd, and Kris Jones are presenting, then Guy Kawasaki is giving his keynote in the evening.
I think I’ve died and gone to internet heaven.
PS :: Kris is blogging this too! (So is Jeremy)
You make me very happy.
Okay Wendy!
No breaks aloud now! You’re on a roll…and surely a genius!
No one wants to duplicate what you’ve already written, so you’re getting all the links in!
Girl, you’re rockin!
You’re giving us no time to miss u!
Til tomorrow,
Ponn
